Trial set for man who solicited sex with 8-year-old
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A New Jersey man accused of traveling to Rhode Island to have sex with a girl he thought was 8 years old is set to face a jury.
A trial is scheduled to begin Monday for Donald Jones III in federal court in Providence. Prosecutors say Jones is registered as a sex offender in New Jersey.
Jones was arrested in Providence last year after prosecutors say he had been in contact over the Internet with an undercover federal agent posing as the father of the girl, who did not exist.
The agent contacted Jones after he posted a note online seeking parents of young children who would let him have sex with their daughters.
Jones has pleaded not guilty. One charge he faces carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. — Associated Press
Clifton teacher charged with having sex with student, 16
An after-school tutoring session allegedly turned into a sexual encounter between a 16-year-old male student and his 26-year-old teacher, who is accused of multiple encounters with the boy.
New Jersey Police arrested Kristin Leone late Monday afternoon for her alleged relations with a Clifton High School student, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office in a statement.
“She’s 26. He’s 16,” Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said, according to The Record of Bergen County. “He is her student and a subordinate to her, so while there’s no evidence that she coerced him or forced him physically, legally he cannot consent.”
Authorities launched an investigation after administrators with the high school reported the case on May 7. Detectives found the student-teacher couple had two sexual encounters, first during an after-school tutoring session and again at the teacher’s home. The initial incident involved intimate touching, while the second progressed to sexual intercourse, according to the prosecutor’s statement.
Leone is charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of criminal sexual contact, luring and enticing a child, and two counts of official misconduct.
“We want every parent and student to know that we will continue to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students at Clifton High School and all of the schools throughout the district,” Superintendent of Schools Richard Tardalo said in a statement, according to CBS New York.
In 2010, the school’s former principal was accused of exposing himself to the mother of a special needs student visiting for a meeting about her child. In addition, at least three female students have claimed during the past year that they were raped or sexually assaulted by other students on the Clifton High School campus, the CBS station also reported. – The Huffington Post, May 10, 2012
Here’s a key scene from Requiem for a Vampire, filmed in Kearny in mid-2005. Mona Sethi is the vampire; Tony Attrino her victim.
Nothing to do with Jersey. Just a great piece of American cinema.
