Woman falls to her death from Newark apartment

NEWARK — A 60-year-old woman fell from the seventh-floor of a Newark apartment tower near downtown Friday afternoon, Dec. 21, according to police.

The woman was not identified because police had not yet notified the woman’s relatives.

Police said the woman fell about 3 p.m. from an apartment at 1 Court St., Newark.

The building is on the corner of Broad Street, police said.

She was taken to University Hospital where she later died.

A police spokesman said investigators from the police department’s major crimes unit were awaiting an autopsy report.

Prosecutor: 91-year-old woman dies after son ties her to recliner with shoelaces

Authorities say Mildred Schnabel, 91, died in this home on 35th Street in Union City after he 56-year-old son, Peter Schnabel, tied her overnight to a recliner using shoelaces.

UNION CITY – Peter Schnabel, 56, has been charged with elderly neglect, a third-degree crime, after authorities accused him of tying up his 91-year-old mother while he went to work.

They said he used shoelaces to tie the woman to a recliner.

Route 80 crash into sound barrier kills woman, injures her fiancé

PARSIPPANY –
A 30-year-old woman from West Milford was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Route 80 on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, police said.

Jennifer Wyatt was driving an SUV that crashed into a sound barrier and shattered to pieces on the westbound highway near Parsippany, according to NJ.com.

Her passenger and fiancé, David Olsen, 36, of Lake Hopatcong, was transported to Morristown Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, State Police spokesman Sgt. Adam Grossman said.

The accident occurred about 12:40 a.m. Wyatt died at the scene.

Olsen was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said.

 

CVS robber pumped full of bullets, killed by cops in Leonia

Rickey McFadden was well-known at the CVS pharmacy on Leonia’s Broad Avenue. He often stopped in to buy snacks or medication for diabetes and other maladies, his family said.

On Sunday evening, he was armed with a knife when he entered the store, taking cash and other items and leaving on foot, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Still holding the knife, McFadden was shot dead two blocks from the pharmacy by police officers who responded to the reported robbery, authorities said.

– When Chef Joseph Cerniglia appeared on “Kitchen Nightmares,” host Gordon Ramsay told him his New Jersey business would soon  “swim down the Hudson.”

The comment was a grim foreshadowing of things to come.

It was the 39-year-old Cerniglia who was found floating in the Hudson River about 3 p.m. on a September day in 2010 after 911 received a report of a man jumping form the George Washington Bridge.

Feds say former EMT from Sussex County took fantasies of raping and cannibalizing children to the web

NEWTON – Federal authorities say a 56-year-old man who recently worked as a volunteer EMT in Sussex County used the internet to discuss detailed fantasies of raping and cannibalizing children, according to The Star-Ledger of Newark.

A complaint filedagainst Robert Mucha, of Newton, charges him with luring a teenage boy to Pennsylvania for sex, as well as receiving and possessing child pornography on his home computer, according to the newspaper.

The eight-page complaint against Mucha also says that “gruesome” Yahoo! chat logs between Mucha and a man in Kansas “provide a window into the men’s fetishes and sexual fantasies.”
