READINGTON TWP. — Elizabeth Mongno said she was walking her Alaskan Shepherd, Tonka, on Wednesday when the dog spotted a deer and darted into the woods next to her house.

As she waited for the 1-year-old dog to return, Mongno says she heard a pop and a yelp. She immediately knew something was wrong.

About 10 minutes later, she found Tonka about 50 feet from her property line.

“I let out a blood-curdling scream, yelling ‘Someone killed my dog, who killed my dog?'” said Mongno, of Readington.

An off-duty police detective driving a Jeep struck and killed a woman who was crossing the street, authorities said Saturday.

Jake Pascucci, 28, was driving his Jeep Cherokee southbound on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch on Friday night when he struck the woman, Monmouth County prosecutors said.

Karen Borkowski, 60, of Stanhope, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Couple found dead in multimillion-dollar home in Monmouth County

HOLMDEL - The bodies of an adult man and woman have been discovered at a home in a mulitimillion-dollar housing development, reports the Asbury Park Press.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that they are investigating the deaths of the man and woman, although they provided no additional information on the victims or their deaths.

Property records show that Arshad Zarak and Asma Hussain signed the deed for the property on July 21 for $1.66 million. The couple, who are listed in the mortgage documents as husband and wife, took out a mortgage for $1.15 million.

A 50-year-old nurse jumped to her death from a parking deck in New Brunswick on June 5, 2014.

The woman, who is from Crosswicks in Burlington County, “fell to her death as the result of an apparent suicide,” police Capt. J.T. Miller said in a statement.
