SOUTH BRUNSWICK –
A man who reportedly threatened members of a police SWAT team with a knife was shot and killed Wednesday night, Nov. 20.

The New Jersey state attorney general’s office is investigating the shooting, ,which occurred about 6:30 p.m. during a standoff with the man on Hannah Drive.

Authorities say a member of the Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team fatally shot 28-year-old Andrew Murnieks inside his home.

Murnieks’ mother reportedly told police her son was schizophrenic and had not been taking his medication.

Several homes near the scene were evacuated as the police tried to speak with Murnieks.

Authorities said Murnieks was shot once in the chest and later died at a New Brunswick hospital.
