‘Whitney is dead’

Newark-born music icon Whitney Houston is dead at age 48. The singer-actress, who grew up in East Orange, was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel room on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.

Whitney Houston was found dead Feb. 11, 2012 in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel a night before the Grammy Awards. An autopsy was performed but a cause of death has not been released to the public.

Houston grew up in East Orange, singing in the church choir at New Hope Baptist Church, Newark. After a Baptist funeral televised worldwide on Saturday, Feb. 18, Houston was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

After the funeral, The National Enquirer published this photo of Whitney.
Fairview Cemetery is noted for its sprawling hills and lush greenery. It is also closed to the public as of this writing.

When Morbid New Jersey tried to drive through the front gate on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, we were turned away by two polite police officers whose patrol cars were parked out front. The officers were OK with picture taking outside the gates, however.
